China-Indonesia Cooperation on TVET Yields Fruitful Results | CITIEA's 2024 Working Conference Successfully Held Today

On the morning of April 25, the 2024 Working Conference of China-Indonesia TVET Industry-Education Alliance (hereinafter referred to as "CITIEA") was successfully held in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia. Indonesian participants in the conference include Djiuhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador to China, Ir. Kiki Yuliati, Deputy Minister of Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, and Warsito.DEA, Deputy Minister of Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. Chinese participants in the conference include An Yan, Deputy Secretary General of China Education Association for International Exchange ("CEAIE"), Lin Long, General Manager of PT. LiuGong Machinery Indonesia, and Gan Jinming, President of LVTC. In addition, representatives from nearly 100 vocational colleges and enterprises in China and Indonesia attended the conference online and offline.

An Yan delivers a speech

At the conference, An Yan summarized the work of the China-Indonesia TVET Industry-Education Alliance in the past year and stressed that although CITIEA was not established for a long time, it has done a lot to promote technical and vocational education and training (TVET) cooperation between the two countries. She believed that the first China-ASEAN Institutes of Modern Craftsmanship jointly established by LVTC, LiuGong Machinery Co., Ltd. (LiuGong) and Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ) was a breakthrough made after Premier Li Qiang announced at the 26th China-ASEAN Summit held in Jakarta that China will built 10 "China-ASEAN Institutes of Modern Craftsmanship" in ASEAN countries in the next three years. She promised that CEAIE would continue to support the work of CITIEA and serve as its strong backing.

Djiuhari Oratmangun delivers a speech

Ambassador Djiuhari Oratmangun mentioned that he had just finished attending some important events for China and Indonesia, and canceled other plans so as to attend the conference, highlighting his attention and support for the integrated development of industry and education in TVET in both countries. Deputy Minister Ir. Kiki Yuliati stressed the necessity of learning TVET experience from China, saying that the presence of Chinese vocational colleges in front of her today shows that the two governments have given strong support for China-Indonesia cooperation on TVET. Warsito.DEA believes that the conference is one of the most important events this year, and hopes that China and Indonesia can make full use of their advantages as a populous country to promote the growth of young people through industry-education integration in TVET.

Gan Jinming delivers a speech

Gan Jinming, President of LVTC, delivered a speech on behalf of Chinese vocational colleges of CITIEA, introducing the achievements of industry-education integration between LVTC and polytechnics from Indonesia over the past year since the establishment of CITIEA. Daniel, CEO of PT. LiuGong Machinery Indonesia, expressed the importance attached to TVET on behalf of the enterprise.

At the inaugural meeting of CITIEA last year, LVTC facilitated 8 pairs of Chinese and Indonesian vocational colleges to sign the "1+1+1" dual diploma agreement on cooperative education. At this conference held in Jakarta, LVTC organized 10 pairs of Chinese and Indonesian vocational colleges to sign contracts for cooperation. LVTC also signed agreements with LiuGong, Sriwijaya State Polytechnic, and PT. Gotion Green Energy Solutions Indonesia on different cooperation programs. The Chinese and Indonesian schools that finalized cooperation agreements on-site expressed their gratitude to LVTC. Indonesian polytechnics, yet to form partnerships with Chinese colleges, are eager for CITIEA to facilitate more collaboration between Indonesian polytechnics and Chinese vocational colleges in the near future. To this end, the Secretariat of Chinese and Indonesian Colleges of  CITIEA promptly distributed forms during the conference for Indonesian polytechnics to specify their desired major clusters for cooperation, assuring of pairing them with corresponding Chinese colleges immediately following the conference.

At the conference, a video featuring a vivid narration by Crisjona Manihuruk, a student from Medan, Indonesia, aroused heated discussion among the participants. This video tells the three-month journey of Crisjona Manihuruk, who was chosen to study in the tailored class of construction machinery collaboratively designed by LVTC, LiuGong and PNJ, vividly showing how an average student from an Indonesian polytechnic school, who had never considered studying abroad, embraced the opportunity presented by the industry-education integration between China and Indonesia. Liliana Dewi, vice president of PNJ, stressed that she never thought her students could "go this far" at the beginning of the cooperation, and the video made her be moved to tears.

It is reported that the China-Indonesia TVET Industry-Education CITIEA was initiated by LVTC, LiuGong and Sriwijaya State Polytechnic with the support of China Education Association for International Exchange and Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in China. The CITIEA was established on September 15, 2023 during the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Exhibition and Forum in Nanning, Guangxi. At the beginning of its establishment, the CITIEA has attracted 61 Chinese vocational colleges, 49 Indonesian polytechnics and community schools, and 18 Chinese enterprises with businesses in Indonesia. The CITIEA has received support from CEAIE and has been integrated into the management framework of the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Federation. After more than half a year of operation, the CITIEA has actively explored the cooperation on dual diploma in TVET, connection of curriculum systems, and mutual recognition of credits between the two countries, showing increasing influence. At present, nearly 10 Chinese institutions and several Indonesian undergraduate universities have applied to join the CITIEA. The successful holding of this conference has set up a platform for in-depth exchanges, communication and cooperation between vocational colleges and enterprises of the two countries. In the future, the CITIEA will further enhance cooperation to promote the industry-education integration in TVET between the two countries, thus injecting new vitality into the development of friendly relations between China and Indonesia.
